Is the Christianity “keeping your nose clean” mentality good enough?
Let’s unpack that…
For most of my youth, I wanted to do something for Christ because of Ecclesiastes 12:1 which says “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth…” Before the age of 14, I remember God being my focus. I approached most things with God in mind. However, for much of my 20s, my Christianity was just a part of my life. What I mean, is that it was not my lifestyle. As long as I included God in my life, I thought I was good. My motivation for not doing something I thought was wrong was just to stay out of trouble.
I often fall into the trap of thinking that God is in heaven just waiting for us to mess up so He can hurl lightning down at us. Making our motivation for trying our best not to sin, self-preservation.
2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”
What is your take on the subject?
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace
